Southern Maine is home to many talented artists. Most of their work is found in studios and galleries just minutes from our York bed and breakfast. Whether you appreciate art or are looking for something fun to try, we recommend checking out the beautiful work of these 10 artists in Southern Maine.

  1. Adeline Goldminc-Tronzo
    Born and educated in Paris, France, Adeline Goldminc-Tronzo made her way to Eliot, Maine, with her painter husband, Michael Tronzo. Goldminc-Tronzo has many collections which are held privately both in the U.S. and abroad.
  2. Amy Stacey Curtis
    Amy Stacey Curtis is known for her interactive art. She has said that “My work physically exists as art only when installed in a space and activated by an audience.” With 81 installations located in the vast mills of 8 or 9 Maine towns, each exhibit lives for 22 years.
  3. Janet Ledoux
    In a sunny studio in Biddeford, Maine, Janet Ledoux spends her time painting throughout the winter months. She is primarily an oil painter but has also dabbled in watercolor, gouache, pastel, graphite, and ink.
  4. Roland Salazar
    With time designated in both Maine and Mexico, Roland Salazar put his vision of Maine into his artwork. Salazar believes that everyone has their own experience of Maine. You can find some of Salazar’s work at the KPT ArtHouse in Lower Village, Kennebunk, Maine or schedule a visit to his studio in Biddeford, Maine.
  5. Wolfgang Ertl
    Beginning his painting career as a youth in Germany, Wolfgang Ertl originally pursued an academic background in literature. From 2005 until 2010 Ertl lived in York, Maine and then moved to Hampton, New Hampshire. You can still find some of his work in Maine at the Pastel Painters of Maine and Museums of Old York.
  6. Rachel Eastman
    As a Maine native, Rachel Eastman currently maintains a studio in Biddeford, Maine. Eastman is currently participating in a solo show at Husson University called “Ocean Ritual.” This show goes through December 10th and Eastman is constantly updating her website with new events.
  7. Cheryl Rau
    As a graduate of the photography program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, ME, Cheryl Rau, now calls the Maine coast home. Discovering her passion for photography in her 40s, Rau has had multiple exhibitions since 2013.
  8. John DiMestico
    Currently living in Maine, John DiMestico’s work is currently held by Massachusetts General Hospital, Fidelity Investments, Provincetown Art Association as well as other private entities. He has taught all over the northeast including Martha’s Vineyard and Monhegan Island.
  9. Diane Bowie Zaitlin
    Almost exclusively throughout Maine, Diane Bowie Zaitlin loves not only painting but also passing on her knowledge through workshops. Zaitlin has exhibits in Portland, Maine, through April of 2016.
  10. Jessica Beebe
    Jessica Beebe is more than just an artist. She is a photographer, designer, illustrator, stylist, and curator. Beebe’s work has been displayed in major cities including Portland, Maine.
