We may be somewhat biased, but here at Dockside Guest Quarters & Restaurant we think Maine is a pretty fantastic place to visit. During the month of May, the end of Spring in Maine brings the opportunity to enjoy yourself in the warmer weather among the blossoming landscape. Winter in Maine can be harsh, and it fades slowly into the spring season, but once spring is underway, you’ll be able to see the special kind of charm our state has. As the temperatures begin to rise, the seasons for many activities begin to open. So, if you’ve been longing all winter for the chance to get out on the water, wander the beaches, see the local sites, or just soak in a bit of coastal atmosphere, then late spring in Maine is what you’ve been waiting for!
Spring in Maine is not only beautiful, you’ll find that it is the ideal time to visit the York area. Earlier in the official spring season, spring can get off to a couple of false starts, but as the season progresses, you’ll find that there are few destinations with same pull as the Maine coast. During May, the winter chill will have worn off, but the summer crowds won’t have arrived yet. So, when you plan your visit you can look forward to participating in some of your favorite warm weather activities.
Deep sea fishing season kicks off in April, so you can take to the water to cast your line during your springtime getaway. Many of the area’s cruises also begin setting sail for the season again in May, so get ready to enjoy the scenic views from the water. Depending on the weather, you might even want to take off on a daytime adventure of kayaking, canoeing or biking with the assistance of an outfitter like Harbor Adventures. Nature hikes are another great way to enjoy the greenery that spring brings with it. The Cliff Walk or the trail from Wiggly Bridge to Steedman’s Woods Nature Preserve and Old York.
Other popular activities in spring in Maine include antiquing and shopping in York Village, and seeing the historic sites in the area. If you’re a fan of whiskey, then you should definitely pay a visit to Wiggly Bridge Distillery, where they have two varieties of small batch whiskey produced on the premises. The two varieties are both award winning, with one being their White Whiskey and the other Baby Bourbon Whiskey.
